JAMES WHITMORE
Rounding out the principal cast as Dr. Frock is JAMES WHITMORE, who has received Academy Award® nominations for both "Give 'Em Hell, Harry!" and "Battleground." Most recently seen in "The Shawshank Redemption," Whitmore has a distinguished and diverse body of work on films including "The Asphalt Jungle," "Black Like Me," the sci-fi horror classic "The Planet of the Apes," "Tora! Tora! Tora!" and "Nuts" co-starring with Barbra Streisand. The HBO feature "Glory, Glory" won him an ACE Award.

Born in Buffalo, Whitmore attended Connecticut's Choate School. Interrupted in his pre-law studies at Yale University by World War II, Whitmore earned his degree while in boot camp and served as an officer in the Marine Corps. Upon his discharge at the end of the war, he joined the U.S.O and after that he studied at The American Theater Wing and performed in summer stock. His first Broadway role was in "Command Decision" for which he won the Tony for Best Supporting Actor and the Donaldson Award for Best Newcomer of the Year. His first motion picture, "The Undercover Man," with Glenn Ford, was followed quickly by "Battleground."

James Whitmore continues to work in the theater and recently starred in "The Magnificent Yankees" at the prestigious Williamstown Theater Festival. Directly following his filming in "The Relic," he reprised his role as Oliver Wendell Holmes in the production at Ford's Theater in Washington D.C.
